Overview

The growing need for Global 1000 companies to create world-class collaborative mobile commerce environments is fuelling a demand for a wide range of wireless technology professionals. Many of the leading Consultancies, for example, are now seeking to build their ‘Mobile Internet’ practices through the recruitment of experienced Wireless Internet Architects who can provide expertise in a number of key areas such design, integration and security of mobile commerce solutions. 

Role Responsibilities

The Wireless Internet Architect will be be involved in the design, development and deployment of wireless Internet applications. Dependent upon the level of seniority or the area of specialisation, specific responsibilities may include:

  • Taking a major role or lead in the technical design and delivery of wireless Internet applications
  • Development of technical architectures based on an assessment of the customer or business needs
  • Design of mobile and wireless B2B systems using OO concepts and methodologies (UML / RUP)
  • Perform feasibility assessments and develop prototypes of strategic, scaleable applications, and extensible architecture frameworks for supporting wireless based client offerings
  • Work with WAP gateways, carriers, devices and browsers to build server-based Internet applications
  • Develop code using Java, C++, XML, XML, WAP, WML, HDML, PalmOS/PQA & Code Warrior
  • Implement secure m-commerce transaction environments using digital certificates and SSl in a wireless mode
  • Design of the overall application architecture
  • Maintain the conceptual integrity of the application software at design and implementation level
  • Analyse existing enterprise systems and processes to identify data and process flows and integration points for mobile and wireless technology
  • Design and code data transformations and EAI flows
  • Identify the key enabling and integration solution framework
  • Provide technical leadership in areas such as technical design, configuration, implementation and integration of wireless Internet applications
  • Provide thought leadership in the area of wireless Internet applications and keep abreast of the latest tools and technologies

    Candidates should ideally be able to demonstrate 5 years’ plus relevant commercial design and development experience including real experience in emerging wireless oriented technologies including:

  • Understanding of WAP and/or Web clipping technologies
  • Development expertise in Java and/or C++
  • In-depth knowledge of wireless and m-commerce related tools & technologies (in addition to WAP) such as WML, WDML, XML, XSL, HTML, c-HTML, HDML, PKL, Aether Systems ScoutWare, phone.com UP product family, PalmOS, PQA, Symbian EPOC-32, RIM VoxML or Bluetooth, SMS, Windows CE/PocketPC, CDMA, TDMA or GSM;
  • Wireless Telephony/IP Architects, in particular, should have expertise in areas such as GSM, UMTS, CDMA, TDMA, OTA, OTP, WIN, Camel 7, IN (Intelligent Network) and HLR; plus a general knowledge of geo-location technology including GPS and network-based 7 and service enablers, SIM Toolkit and JAIN & Parlay.
  • Knowledge of Wireless oriented products such as WAP Gateways, Transcoders, Unified Messaging Platforms, Wireless Location ID, Web Site Personalisation
  • Proven experience of designing and developing large scale distributed systems including client-server or n-tier solutions and scalable, secure and extensible component based architectures, using distributed object technologies such as CORBA or COM/DCOM (or IIOP, Java RMI, DCE/RPC)
  • Ability to design end-to-end solutions encompassing content aggregation, personalisation and delivery
  • Knowledgeable in message-oriented middleware and application integration
  • Experience of EJB (Enterprise JavaBeans) or other major application server technologies such as MTS
  • Experience of OO development tools, methodologies and CASE tools
  • Experience gained in a structured method environment (such as UML, RUP or OMT)
  • Knowledge of Internet based technologies such as Web Servers (such as Apache or Netscape), Application Servers (WebSphere, WebLogic), Database Servers, Javascript, ASP, PHP
  • UNIX or NT platform experience
  • Experience gained in any of the following areas is desirable:

  • Experience of IIOP, SOAP, JDK, JMS, JTS and Java RMI
  • Experience of EAI tools such as BEA WebLogic Server, BEA Tuxedo, TSI Mercator, Citrix ICA, IBM MQSeries, Microsoft MSMQ, and webMethods B2B Server
  • Knowledge of relational or object databases e.g. Oracle, Sybase, SQL Server, ObjectStore, Objectivity
  • Experience of OSS (Billing & Customer Care) & CRM (marketing) solutions
  • Knowledge of enterprise level applications such as SAP, Baan, Siebel, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards OneWorld or Clarify
  • Experience with workflow servers
  • Knowledge of PKI, SSI, SET or other security principles and technologies
